Hi! So very glad you’ve stopped by. Come on in, and let’s get acquainted.
I’m Heather. I’ve been artsy my whole life: dance, music, crafts, sewing, and eventually theater.
I was in college when I really got the theater bug, though at the time I was studying Music Education. Wow. Memories of that time are still so fresh; its hard to believe I received my B.A. in Theatre over 25 years ago!
Since then the path has been anything but boring. Isn’t it amazing all the wonderful twists and turns life can take? Serving as Executive Director for two non-profits, and VP for an international financial giant’s Innovation Department, I’ve earned my Six Sigma Lean Green Belt and been part of incredible teams doing interesting and life-impacting work.
Performance art has been the mainstay through it all, continuing to do what gives me energy: performing, directing, and teaching. These days I’m fairly choosy about the roles I take on. I still enjoy the challenge of bringing a character to life and always will. I also want to make a difference in this world and that’s why I’m so passionate about directing and teaching. I am filled with joy whenever I help others discover and tap into the talents they possess, honing their craft, and experiencing the power of theatre.
I’ve been fortunate to perform, direct and teach in New York, California, North Carolina, South Carolina and in Texas where I reside with my husband and two boys (who are now both taller than me!). I am honored that actors and theatre companies trust me to foster an environment for personal excellence. Effective communication, cohesion, and collaboration are the tenets of my style. Check out my full CV HERE.
So how did I come to Intimacy Direction? One day, while seeking to formalize my framework for an actor-centric approach to navigating intimate scenes I found The Five Pillars of Consent. Mind blown!! I realized I wasn’t alone – that others recognized how important it is to provide actors with space for individual agency while maintaining ultimate creativity. Hallelujah! I wanted to be part of that community and because I am a self-ascribed life-long learner, I wanted to gain more knowledge. Since then, I’ve acquired over _____ hours of training in Intimacy Direction/Choreography and another ______ in supplemental training. I’m certified in Mental Health First Aid for Adults and Youth, as well as Bystander Intervention (full list of training HERE).
You know what is an absolute thrill for me? Seeing the difference these practices can make on the level of trust, freedom of creativity, and overall health of the cast members I work with. Just observing the transformation in body language between the moment I first walk into an Intimacy call and the moment we checkout after is exquisite. I smile big when I’m able to attend the performance, knowing we curated those moments together. Their hugs and thanks afterwards tell me this work makes a difference. And I’m delighted to be part of it.
